Judge holds hearing for Bay Mills off-reservation casino case

A federal judge promised a quick ruling in a lawsuit that seeks to force the the Bay Mills Indian Community to shut down its off-reservation casino in Michigan.

The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians and the state of Michigan say the casino is illegal. The gaming site is not held in trust and the National Indian Gaming Commission has said it doesn't qualify under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

Judge Paul Malone didn't make a decision on an injunction that the Little Traverse Bay Bands and the state requested.
